The African American Folklorist invites scholars, artists, musicians, and cultural practitioners to submit work for our upcoming Black Ethnomusicology issue. This special edition will explore the rich, complex, and evolving traditions of Black music across the African diaspora, with a focus on ethnographic research, oral histories, performance studies, and community narratives.
We are accepting a wide range of submissions, including:
🎶 Academic papers
🎶 Multimedia presentations
🎶 Essays and personal reflections
🎶 Interviews and field notes
🎶 Audio or video recordings with contextual commentary
This issue aims to center Black voices and highlight the deep cultural knowledge embedded in Black musical expression—from spirituals to hip hop, jazz to jùjú, and everything in between.
Final submissions must be received by June 14th.
